What do you get when Festival co-director Abraham Ferrer and veteran video artist Erica Cho get together to assemble an LGBT shorts program? We get proto-queer lipstick traces in a Koreatown mall, a paranoid straight girl pulling a Jenny Schechter on her fiancé’s ex, bad twincestuous break-up sex, a kidnapped dominatrix, and of course coming-of-age, coming out stories featuring cute, queer, teens-of-color. Climb out of the covers, part-time lovers, and enjoy this awesome mix of shorts!

ANDY

After church, Charles and Joyce take their six-year-old son Andy to a shopping mall for a relaxing afternoon. Bored and hungry, Andy can't sit still and roams about the mall. When he spots his son interacting with a stranger, Charles realizes just how vulnerable his family really is.

Ah Sheng loves to draw superheroes, but cannot afford the comics that depict them. When he resorts to stealing a comic book from a small Indian provision ('mama') shop, the gentle owner takes pity on him. When fate brings them together again, they each discover the importance of not simply judging people by their appearances.

Initially assumed to be just another customer, Susan turns out to be Paul’s ex, who has come to the house to pick up her belongings. Director Edward Gunawan presents to us the tough question: What will you do... What will you say... when you meet the Ex?

TWINCEST DIES AT 4 OF..."COMPLICATIONS"

twincest, a multimedia collaboration between two lovers, Jiz Lee and Syd Blakovich, observed 4 years of the artists documenting their interpersonal dynamics and intimacies through sound, movement, video, photography, body fluids, pain, aggression, meat, sex, and love. Eventually, twincest served to document the demise of their relationship over the backdrop of their rising porn careers. This video short is a compilation of footage shot on their last performance journey in the Palm Springs desert attempting to capture images and sound for the construction of their 'funeral piece' celebrating the death of their collaboration.

REVOLUTION

REVOLUTION is the coming-of-age story of Jack, a 16-year-old Iranian boy growing up in Los Angeles, 1989. The story is set in motion when Jack’s parents fire his beloved nanny Letti, for teaching him to pray. As his mother explains, “if it wasn’t for religion, we would never be here.” With the 1979 Iranian Revolution a distant memory, the AIDS movement as a backdrop, and a haunting score by Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij, Jack stages his own much smaller revolution within the confines of his traditional family.
