Program Description: Are we forgetting the past, or are we trapped in it? Are we afraid of the future, or are we winning it? What does the LGBT Asian Pacific film look and sound like in 2014? For the 30th anniversary, we’ve assembled an amazing lineup of recent films made by artists from across the globe to screen alongside the works of pioneer queer filmmakers Shu Lea Cheang and Nguyen Tan Hoang. FINGERS AND KISSES (dir. Cheang, 1995) and CRIMSON (dir. Nguyen, 2000) are two films near and dear to our hearts, and ones that hold special relevance today. We hope this pairing of the past and present will expand and deepen conversations about the future of LGBT cinema.

NO NO HOMO
directed by Jerell Rosales | 2014 | US
Alone at a matinee together, with a big, mouth-watering bucket of popcorn...

SOUND OF NEW PUSSY
directed by Yozmit | 2012 | US
Neo-Victorian pop star Yozmit takes us to a higher level of human consciousness through her electronic dance beats, the Heart Sutra, and the sounds of the New Pussy language.

FINGERS & KISSES
directed by Shu Lea Cheang | 1995 | TAIWAN
A fun, sexy portrait of lesbian subculture in 1990s Tokyo, on the subway and in the streets.

PERFORMING GIRL
directed by Crescent Diamond | 2013 | US
D’Lo, a queer, transgender Tamil Sri Lankan American artist, ran away from home at the age of eleven. From the desert town of Lancaster, California, to a vibrant performance life on the queer comic stage, this documentary tells the moving story of D’Lo’s challenging relationship with his parents, as they grow together toward love and acceptance.

WINNING THE FUTURE
directed by Jennifer Hsu | 2012 | US
"Bodies," a traveling entertainment exhibition of preserved human bodies, has provoked controversy over the display of human remains and their unverified origins in China. This experimental animation documents public conversations on race, ethics, and the human body at their finest.

UTERUS MAN
directed by Lu Yang | 2013 | CHINA
Deep throat lazer cannon? Check. Ovum light wave propellers? Check. Watch out because Uterus Man is fully equipped to take on any villain in the straight, square world!

DRAFT DAY
directed by Josh Kim | 2013 | THAILAND
In Thailand, all males turning 21 must participate in the military draft lottery. Drawing a black card grants exemption. Drawing a red card results in two years of military service. DRAFT DAY follows two young, transgender women as they participate in the drafting process.

CRIMSON
directed by Gino T. aka Nguyen Tan Hoang | 2000 | US
A memory of a long lost crush; an artsy boy turned motorcycle dyke.

I THOUGHT I FOUND YOU BUT V.1.0
directed by Yvette Choy | 2013 | US
This film keeps us searching but for what or whom? Our only clues are the subtleties our subjects’ offer, as they insist upon a closer look, a different look and a deeper look.
